Expected time dedication
You have up to 2 years to complete the qualification. Average completion time is typically 4 to 12 months, depending on individual progress, work-based evidence and learner commitment.
Time dedication is approximately 1,000 hours, including around 500 guided learning hours.
Entry requirements
You should have English verbal and written proficiency so you can discuss your work activities and write reflective accounts linked to the learning outcomes.
You should also have exposure to writing, reviewing or amending safety policies and procedures, and be involved in relevant workplace health and safety activity.
Assessment method
This qualification is competence-based. Candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units by producing a portfolio of evidence that shows achievement of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Evidence can include workplace documents, continuous professional development records, witness testimony, reflective accounts, professional discussion and other suitable evidence from your role.
Assessment is carried out remotely by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor. Feedback is provided as you progress, and where amendments are needed you can update and resubmit your evidence.

No exam. Instead, assessment is through the completion of a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates the learner’s competence in the various units. This evidence may include reports, workplace documents, witness testimonies, and reflective accounts. Assessors will review this portfolio and may also conduct observations and professional discussions.
Upon completion the learner will receive a coveted Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Practice (Equivalent to a Bachelors), and will gain recognition as a competent health and safety expert, increasing prospects, and have the credential required for Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) with IOSH.
There are no formal entry requirements; however, candidates should have a considerable level of responsibility for health and safety in their current role to successfully complete the qualification through the assessment of work-based activities. An English verbal and writing proficiency, to allow you to discuss and write content related to the
learning outcomes and your work activities.
