Who is this course intended for? 

This course is made for the likes of managers, coaches and volunteers etc. who are involved with youth football clubs. 

The aim of this course is to provide you with a strong understanding what the role of an SYFA First Aider involves. Upon completion of this course learners will be able administer First Aid to children in the football setting, and know how to lead in an emergency situation. 

This knowledge will give you a thorough understanding of your role as a First Aider and ways to respond to specific injuries, thus giving you confidence to act in an emergency. 

If the course is taken as theory and practical, learners will also gain that confidence by having practical experience using the techniques learned throughout the theory element of the course. 

How is the course delivered? 

The course is delivered in a flexible format – in a classroom, or on site at your location – this concise program empowers trainee’s to think and act confidently in a first aid scenario. 

This course is only £50.00 per person,

How long is the duration of the course? 

This is a one day course (7 hours) 

What are the key topics covered in the course? 

  • The role of the first aider 

  • Legislation and Responsibilities 

  • First aid at sporting events 

  • The first aid room and kit 

  • Incident assessment including sending for help and personal safety 

  • Basic life support (as per latest European Resuscitation Council guidelines) including use of AED + practical session + examination 

  • Management of the unconscious casualty 

  • Recovery position + practical session 

  • Action for vomiting, choking and suspected heart attack 

  • Injuries to the head including facial injuries 

  • Scottish guidelines for management of concussion 

  • Spinal injury 

  • Injuries to the limbs – soft tissue and suspected fracture / practical session / examination

During the course, learners will actively engage with trainers, receive guidance and feedback, and have the opportunity to discuss course material and relate it directly to football. This course is taken as theory and practical,: learners will gain the confidence by having practical experience using the techniques learned throughout the theory element of the course.

This course has already been customised to SYFA standards.  

Is there an assessment or exam at the end of the course? 

Yes, knowledge will be tested throughout course (both theory and practical) and there will be a multiple choice exam at the end.   

What certification is received upon completing the course? 

Upon completion the learner will receive a 2020 Safety Training Certificate in SYFA approved First Aid. 

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in this course? 

There are no formal entry requirements for this course other than a good grasp of the English language and a willingness to learn about Fire Safety.
